The team behind many public sector construction schemes in Kent has been awarded Chartered Building Consultancy (CBC) status by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) – the first time such an accolade has been awarded to a county council.
Kent County Council Property Group’s Capital Projects team provides project management to make sure that construction projects keep within timescales and budget, comply with government legislation and are built to a high standard. The team also provides guidance on schemes run by schools and others, offering advice on the day-to-day logistics of a building project. The Chartered Building Consultancy status recognises the team’s expertise and its commitment to provide an efficient and professional service. It will offer increased opportunities to further improve developments within Kent and the delivery of the buildings and facilities provided for local residents.
CIOB chief executive Chris Blythe said: Kent County Council leader Paul Carter said: “Twelve years ago, we said we wanted a first class service for all our property portfolio. It has been an exciting journey over that time and this recognition from the CIOB makes that all worthwhile.” Kent County Council is one of the largest property owners and developers in the county. The portfolio has more than 1,400 properties, including schools, day centres, offices, libraries, youth and community centres and country parks. This has an approximate value of £1.3bn and associated running costs of around £74m per annum. KCC Capital Projects team consists of 25 staff and includes architects, civil engineers and surveyors.
